All but #1, April 2004 of these
paintings were made in my Lac Ouaureau studio in the Laurentian
Mountains of Quebec. Winter was fading through thaw into very
early spring, and the first buds were in one tree outside my studio
window. By the time of the last painting, #23, April 2004,
the ice on the lake was nearly gone and I had to return to California.
A place does not shape a work, but it is the environment where work
blossoms.
