Studio notes about #7, July 2005

#7, July 2005

July 10, 2005. Lac Ouaureau, late afternoon.
Start #7, July 2005.
Initial text: Art do what body cannot
All this work the last few days flows
from #2, May 2005 hanging at the bottom of the studio wall
in view beyond my work table.

July 11, 2005. Lac Ouaureau, early morning.
More work on #7 July 2005.
As in those days it was all images of my sex telling me how it must live;
now they’re all just pictures of its slow decline.
“Tell me a story, tell me a story…”
Tell me the story I don’t want to hear.

July 11, 2005. Lac Ouaureau, late afternoon.
Mind or body, one or the other goes.
You don’t get to pick; but if the body goes, you know it.
When mind goes, everyone knows but you.

July 11, 2005. Lac Ouaureau, night.
More work on # 7, July 2005.
So, now it’s the black square to cover and distill the sex image…
and to notice that the original text has become A, B, C...
time to learn the fundamentals.

July 12, 2005. Lac Ouaureau, early morning.
More work on #7, July 2005. Untitled.
Draw the golden circle in the black square.
Observation: It’s not what you want but what you get that matters.
And, of this painting, that’s all there is to it.

July 12, 2005. Lac Ouaureau, night.
Yes, twelve hours later, looking again at #7 July,
that is all there is to it, and it is absolutely indestructible.
