From my studio notes about making this painting....

Source images for #3 May 2010
is the 1958 series
"From one ear of good corn"
pinned up on the studio wall

Source image for #3 May.
Watercolor and pencil on paper,
9 x 12 inches.

The origin of #3 May comes from the top left image in the set of eleven from the 1958 "From one ear of good corn" group on the studio wall. Image at left above is the complete set on the wall, and the particular "From One Ear of Good Corn" image from that group is on right above. (The color is so different because the images were made with different cameras 10 years apart.)

Lac Ouaureau, late afternoon.
Continue with old signs and symbols, images and themes from long ago…

Photoshop the old photos of the 1958 From One Ear of Good Corn series (includes White Stag group) and pin it up on studio wall in the same manner as the Landscapes in transition group had been for #s 1 and 2 May. Make a new from the old. What’s it say? Shut up and wonder.

Thinking about it, I had gone back to the good corn in some 1965 drawings (see 1965 drawings numbers 7 and 9), and  with my 1967 drawings of "The Boy's Union Tool Chest" with the feather of spirit and the ear of good corn of cock at union in the box, and again in 2002 with #4 February, "From one ear of good corn..."

Night.
Looking at these on the wall, and thinking/feeling all the fifty years since—well, it (my cock) did all that… and R-- and H-- stretched the bow. “[They] shot an arrow in the air, and if it landed, they knew not where.” Yes, little did they know.

#3 May 2010.
Acrylic with collage on paper.

A note about method and meaning…
Start with something from the original, let the new medium and scale make the then become now and reveal new images and meanings.

Like how all those reaching hearts needed something to reach for, and all I could find was a disk of "spiritual" blue with a white drop in it.

What the hell does that mean? All these years staying away from the "spirituelle", and now all the hearts want a blue disk? Well, I still won't give them fake. It's got a cum drop in it for climax.
